Darlington Learning Zone has worked with thousands of primary and secondary students for many years, helping them gain confidence and achieve the best results possible in English and maths.

All our fully qualified teachers are passionate about education and create individual and personalised learning plans for every student. We use a mixture of practical, computer and worksheet activities to support learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the tuition take place?
We teach in-person at The Imperial Centre, Grange Road, DL1 5PE. Our office is above the Imperial Express Café on Northumberland Street. There are two entrances to the building, one on Grange Road and the other on Northumberland Street. Please note there are stairs to our office and no lift. The Year 6 SATs Course can be completed at home as videos are emailed each week.
Is the tuition one to one?
All children are planned for and taught individually. There may be up to 3 students in each session, but every child receives their own tailored learning plan.
What subjects and age groups do you teach?
We teach English and Maths and follow the National Curriculum. We work towards SATs and GCSE exams, supporting students from Year 3 (age 7) right through to Year 11 (age 16). We also work with students resitting their English and/or Maths GCSE.
What happens in the first session?
In your child's first session we assess their current level and build a personalised learning plan around the areas they find most challenging. There is no pressure and no formal test. At the start of every session we also ask whether there is anything they have been learning at school that they would like more support with.
Who are your teachers?
All our teachers are fully qualified with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have classroom experience in primary and secondary schools. They have a thorough understanding of the content and expectations for SATs and GCSE exams. All staff hold enhanced DBS checks.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
If you would like an update on how your child is getting on, you are more than welcome to pop into the office at the start or end of their session, give us a call or send us an email. We are always happy to discuss your child's progress.
Do you help with homework?
Yes, we can support your child with their homework. If they have online homework, they'll need their login details. We sometimes send additional work home if we feel it will help.
How does payment work?
Payment is required in advance before the start of each half term. Our preferred method is bank transfer. Your child will be given their own reserved slot each week which will remain theirs for the academic year, or until we are notified otherwise. If your child is unable to attend a session and you would like to rearrange, we will try to facilitate this if we are informed at least one day in advance.
